Uruguay have confirmed their place at the IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy 2013 despite losing their final match at the South American Junior A Championship in Argentina to perenial rivals Chile 33-22 on Saturday.

Los Teritos, who won the inaugural Junior World Rugby Trophy by beating hosts Chile in the final in 2008, secured the South American qualification place by beating Paraguay 84-0 on day two.

The best placed side of Uruguay or Paraguay had the reward of a place at JWRT 2013 with Argentina to play in the IRB Junior World Championship and Chile already qualified for the Trophy as hosts for a second time.

Uruguay had led Chile 15-6 at half time thanks to the boot of Martín del Corro, but tries from Matías Contresas. Francisco Urroz, Augusto Sarmiento and Franco Velarde turned the match on its head.

Chile's victory means they finish second in the table, their only defeat coming at the hands on a strong Argentina outfit who scored 314 points and conceded none in claiming another South American title.

Featuring a handful of players who had helped record Argentina's best ever finish of fourth in the IRB Junior World Championship back in June - including stand out flanker Pablo Matera - Los Pumitas finished in dominant mood, scoring 26 tries in a 174-0 rout of Paraguay.

Uruguay had crossed the Paraguay try-line 12 times themselves on day two with Juan Pieroni, Santiago Asambuja, Sebastían Schoeder and Santiago Martínez also crossing for a brace in the win.

Los Teritos will join Chile, Japan (Asia), Namibia (Africa), Canada (North America/Caribbean), Tonga (Oceania) and Italy (relegated from JWC 2012). This leaves only one place remaining for the European qualifier.
