The International Rugby Board today paid tribute to Bill Hogg, the life-long servant of Scottish Rugby and former IRB Council Member who passed away at the weekend aged 70.
A loyal and passionate administrator, Hogg served the SRU both as Chief Executive (1992-93 until 1997-98) and as Scotland team secretary from 1983 to 1996 when he served as the manager’s assistant at Rugby World Cup tournaments in 1987, 1991 and 1995.
Hogg was awarded the OBE in 2006 for his outstanding services to Scottish Rugby however he also made a significant contribution to the global Game as an IRB Council Member from 1999 to 2005 and also on the Six Nations Committee.
IRB Chairman Bernard Lapasset said, “Bill Hogg was an incredibly dedicated Rugby administrator who played a significant role in the growth and development of our sport, both in Scotland and globally as an IRB Council Member. Yet it was his sheer passion and devotion to the Game for which he will be remembered best. He was an inspiration for us all and a man who reflected the values that we hold dear in the Game.”
“He will be sorely missed by everyone involved in the Game, from the global Rugby family to the Myreside club and George Watson College where he refereed and the Murrayfield Centenary Fund where he played a large role supporting injured players.”
“On behalf of the International Rugby Board and the global Rugby family I would like to extend our deepest sympathy to his family and friends at this difficult time.”
