Growing the Game focus for #IRBConfEx day two

Growing participation and developing a high performance culture will be two of the main themes of discussion when the second day of the IRB World Rugby Conference and Exhibition gets underway in Dublin on Tuesday.

Building on the success of the opening day, key decision makers and leading industry suppliers from around the world of rugby will be privy to the thoughts of an esteemed list of panellists ranging from playing legends of the Game, industry professionals, top-level administrators and coaches during the two-session programme.

Workshops entitled Integrity and Utilising Social Media also form part of the packed agenda, which begins at 10:00 and follows on from an eagerly-awaited special breakfast session from Lord Sebastian Coe, Chairman of the British Olympic Association.

Rugby’s most-capped player George Gregan, fresh from his induction into the IRB Hall of Fame at the Aviva Stadium the evening before, is on the panel for the morning session entitled Developing a performance culture: Elite performance in the sporting and business arenas.

He will be joined on stage by three other greats of the Game in former Argentina captain and IRB Council member Agustín Pichot, RWC 2003 winner Will Greenwood and IRB Player of the Year 2001 winner Keith Wood, who served Ireland and the British & Irish Lions with such distinction. Cricket Ireland Chief Executive Warren Deutrom completes the stellar line-up.

Some of the finest legal brains involved in sport will then head up a workshop on Integrity, which will look at betting in rugby among other topics, before the vast gathering of delegates, exhibitors, Union representatives and media break for lunch.

Turning to the subject of how best to utilise social media, Gregg Oldfield, CEO and founder of Engage Sports Media, and the BBC’s Social Media Editor Chris Hurst will then pass on their extensive knowledge during an hour-long workshop.

The second day of the inaugural IRB World Rugby Conference and Exhibition concludes with a session on Growing Participation: Growing and empowering the global Rugby community. This session will explore the growing participation in Rugby and how the sport is looking to capitalise on its growing profile over the next few years.

As IRB General Manager for Development, Morgan Buckley will bring with him a wealth of experience in this field, having led on the introduction of the IRB’s mass participation programme – Get into Rugby – which will be implemented in more than 40 countries in 2013.

Buckley and his fellow panelists Oregan Hoskins, South African Rugby Union President and IRB Vice Chairman, USA Rugby’s Erin Kennedy and England Women’s Under 20 coach Amanda Bennett will discuss key themes in growing participation in Rugby, including tactics to develop participation when entering new markets.

They will also discuss how the Rugby family can maximise opportunities to enhance long-term participation in the Game before IRB Chief Executive Brett Gosper brings the curtain down on the inaugural IRB World Rugby Conference and Exhibition with his closing speech at 16:00.
